1947
Our Founding

Locweld is founded in the downtown core of Montreal, Quebec by Mr. Morris Fast. The company operates under the name “Locweld and Forged Products Limited” and specializes in the fabrication of steel frames for doors and windows.

1954
Emerging industry, emerging opportunities

A significant opportunity in transmission tower fabrication was emerging and Locweld pivots to capitalize on this growth industry.

1969
Locweld Inc.

The company relocates to a new 175,000 square foot facility on the South Shore of Montreal and officially begins operating under the name “Locweld inc.”

1972
Keeping up with demand
Locweld 1972

The company expands the size of the facility to 220 000 square feet to meet increased demand in Canada and the United States.

1998
Responding to a crisis
Locweld 1998

The Great Ice Storm causes massive, never-before-seen destruction to Quebec’s electric infrastructure with over 1500 towers damaged. For weeks Locweld operates around the clock to help Hydro-Québec restore power to 1.4 million households.

2003
Our first large scale US project

Locweld fabricates our first large-scale project in the American market, 13 000 tons of steel lattice towers for a 765kV line

2007
New challenges
new

Tacoma River Crossing Project: for this challenging project, Locweld fabricates some of the tallest lattice transmission structures in the United States. At 448 and 478 feet, the structures span the Tacoma Narrows and cover an impressive distance of 1.19 miles.

Recognized for excellence

Locweld receives the first of several consecutive recognitions as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.

2015
Fabricating the tallest monopoles in Canada
Locweld 2015

Champlain Bridge Project – at 252 ft, Locweld fabricates the tallest monopoles ever constructed in Canada.

2019
Performance pays off
Locweld 2019

Locweld earns the regional distinction for the Prix Performance Québec, the highest distinction awarded annually by the Premier of Quebec to the best performing private companies and public organizations.

2022
Locweld's performance recognised

Locweld earns the highest distinction for the Prix Performance Québec.  This is the highest distinction awarded annually by the Quebec government to private companies and public organizations based on the quality of their management and overall performance.
